AAUW member Julie Mackaman of Pownal and longtime AAUW friend Deb Burns of Williamstown have linked arms to present two free readings of The Book Club Play as part of the Williamstown Library’s 150th yearlong anniversary. Many AAUW members, including members of our reading group, saw the full production at Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY, a few years ago. Here’s a chance to revisit the uproarious meltdown of a book club before the unblinking eye of a documentary film camera.

Julie writes, “Whether you love your book club or have somehow managed to escape joining one, book clubs are arguably the great national pastime, serving as both a salon and occasional war zone.” The readings of The Book Club Play, a comedy written by Karen Zacarias, are directed by Deb Burns and feature “The Library Cards,” an ensemble of six local actors whose characters can scarcely foresee that their regular gathering will devolve into pandemonium.

Julie and Deb invite AAUW members to come and celebrate a local public library, as well as the people who gather to talk about the books that they love and that they love to hate.
