Lots of interesting performances coming up in October at the Bennington Performing Arts Center (BPAC).  One in particular will be of interest to AAUW members. On Friday, October 22nd, BCT will present “The Suffragists Reenactment Society.”

This is a free performance of a play written by Mary Beth McNulty. Ms.McNulty is based in Vermont, and has written many plays, including drama, comedy, dark comedy, farce, political and experimental. Her plays have been performed in Burlington, Boston, Los Angeles and Scotland, among other places. She is a member of the Dramatist Guild.

The three actresses performing the play are Kathryn Blume, a theater artist, writer, activist, and award-winning solo performer, Sarah Mell, an actress who has a passion for all things theater and advancing gender equity, and Julia Sioss, who directs at the “Lyric and Foul Contending Rebels Theater Cooperative” in Burlington, which performed Shakespeare’s Hamlet in August.

These three women present “. . . a funny, fast-paced journey through the history of how women fought for and won the right to vote in America. . . .”

I have to admit I have never thought of Susan B. Anthony as having a sense of humor (maybe it’s the long time people had to sit for photographs in her day), so I’m looking forward to seeing what the playwright and actresses do with this.

“The Suffragists Reenactment Society” is being presented in many places in the state, starting in Burlington, and making its way to Bennington for one night only. The play runs from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm.]

The play is free, but to make sure you get a seat, you can get tickets on the BPAC website,  This sounds like a fun evening, and I hope many of us will take advantage of BPAC’s bringing the play to Bennington.

See you at the theater!
