AAUW member Julie Mackaman of Pownal and longtime AAUW friend Deb Burns of Williamstown have linked arms to present two free readings of The Book Club Play as part of the Williamstown Library’s 150th yearlong anniversary*

* May 19 at 2 pm. Daisy Turner’s Kin. Vermont Humanities Council talk sponsored by the Bennington Historical Society. Jane Beck shares the story of the Turner family, a multigenerational saga spanning two centuries. The saga was related to Jane Beck by Daisy Turner, who had listened to her father, Alec Turner, recount stories of the family’s past. Our AAUW Book Group read this book several years ago and looks forward to hearing the author’s talk. Location: Bennington Museum.

* Sunday, May 26 at 2 pm. An afternoon concert with the 18-piece swing band “The Stardusters.”

* Tuesday, June 4 at 2 pm. “Red Scare in the Green Mountains.” A Vermont Reads Program. This Vermont Humanities Council talk is cosponsored by AAUW. Rick Winston explores some forgotten history, showing how a small, rural, “rock-ribbed Republican” state with a historically libertarian streak handled the hysteria of the time. Location: The Left Bank, 5 Main Street, North Bennington, VT.
* Wednesday, June 19 at 1 pm. Discussion of Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. Facilitator: Suzanne Brown of the Vermont Humanities Council. A Vermont Reads Program. Cosponsored by AAUW and Bennington Queer Connect. Location: UU Meetinghouse in Bennington. AAUW has free copies of the book available. Malinda Lo is the author of seven novels, including A Scatter of Light. Her novel Last Night at the Telegraph Club won the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the Stonewall Book Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, a Michael L. Printz Honor, and was a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist.
