Silent Angels and Marge Carter Book Award

by Mary Feidner

In 2021 there were 17 Silent Angels contributing to our Scholarship Fund for non-traditional women students. Although most members contribute $100, any amount is welcome to assist the students in their educational pursuits. All branch members are invited to donate annually, if they are able. Many thanks to our generous members who contributed this year.

Marge Carter, an enthusiastic branch member, started our Book Group several years before she died in 2011. In memory of Marge, the participants decided to create a Book Award in her name and donate every year. Other branch members donate as they wish. Winners of scholarships receive an award from this fund toward books which increase in cost each year. Bob Carter, Marge’s husband, doubles the amount from our members with a generous check in Marge’s memory annually. Heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the Marge Carter Book Award in 2021. The students gratefully appreciate it.

The Book Group has consistently met in the Community Room at the Martha Canfield Library since the group began. The Covid period was the only exception. Our sincere thanks go to Phyllis Skidmore, Library Director, and her staff for their kindness.

Editor’s Note: If you would like to be a “Silent Angel” (a branch member who donates anonymously to the Scholarship Fund) or if you want to contribute to the Marge Carter Book Award Fund,  please write to Mary Feidner (mfeidner@comcast.net) and let her know the amount you would like to donate.
