Calls to Action and Newsletters

The Two-Minute Activist   by Ruth Botzow

Your National organization works every day to advocate for women and girls. They address many issues under the broad categories of education, workplace and economic equity, and leadership. This work takes many forms, and you are invited and encouraged to participate by becoming an advocate right from home.

Showing support for women and girls is an integral part of being an AAUW member, and becoming a Two-Minute Activist is an easy, direct way to do so. Once you’ve signed up as an Activist, AAUW will send you timely emails and alerts on voting rights, pay equity, support for immigrant youth, ending workplace harassment, family leave, minimum wage and many other issues.

The AAUW website says it best: “You provide the voice. We’ll provide the megaphone.” Once you are a Two-Minute Activist AAUW will provide “the tools you need to call or send messages to your members of Congress, contact your state legislators about pressing issues, and more.”

Here’s how to sign up: From the AAUW home page at https://www.aauw.org in the dark blue banner near the top are three links: Explore the Issues, Get Empowered and Take Action. Click on Take Action and on the righthand side of that page are five links, including Two-Minute Activist. Click on the Two-Minute Activist item to sign up (you can select areas of interest if you don’t want to receive all the action alerts). Alternately, you can go directly to the Two-Minute Activist site at https://www.aauw.org/act/two-minute-activist to sign up. You will get a confirmation email from AAUW Public Policy Team. Then the next time AAUW issues a call for advocacy you can add your voice to thousands of others. It really is that easy, and it really is that important.
