Mia Schultz serves as the President of the Rutland-Area NAACP, which is one of the largest chapters in New England and services Rutland, Bennington and Addison counties in Vermont. Mia’s current political leadership also includes chairing the Town of Bennington’s Democratic Party. She is the first African American woman to hold office in the organization.
Mia’s commitment to equity and inclusion in Vermont, along with her extensive work to promote the voices of people of color in Bennington, has led to numerous civic leadership appointments.
While working with Southern Vermont’s Supervisory Union’s Equity Literacy Team to advocate for change within Bennington schools, Mia was appointed to serve on the statewide Vermont Coalition Ethnic Studies and Social Equity Working Group. The group was formed to advise the Vermont Board of Education on the adoption of ethnic and social equity standards statewide.
Previously working as a financial analyst in the healthcare industry, after studying public relations and pre-law at Howard University and University of Arizona, Mia’s extensive career has spanned the gamut, from arts curation and data management to website development and network building. Mia’s former experience also includes serving on the board of Rights and Democracy in Vermont.
Mia is an educator, organizer, and problem solver and regularly advocates for people of color throughout Vermont. She has coordinated exhibitions exploring the experiences of people of color in Vermont and organized events specifically for people of color and their families. Mia lives with her family in Bennington, Vermont.
