Doreen Forney joined AAUW in 2019, but we’ve not all had a chance to meet her. She grew up in North Carolina, came north to attend the University of Vermont, and has been in Vermont off and on ever since. Presently she lives in Pownal, which she chose as a half-way destination between Bennington and Williamstown. Doreen graduated from UVM with a degree in Geography, and earned a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University. Subsequently she worked for Saab, Bennington College, where she was the Director of Student Life for some years, and was a counselor at MCLA.
She’s retired now and enjoys snowshoeing and cross-country
skiing. In balmier weather she hikes with a group that identifies animal tracks.
And she’s a musician who divides her time between Vermont and Scotland. Doreen lives part-time in a village a few miles south of Glasgow where she plays cornet with the village band, The Leadhills Silver Band. And some of you may have seen her playing bagpipe with the The Berkshire Highlanders in and around Pittsfield, MA.
She travels back and forth to Scotland regularly, usually planning around the bands’ schedule. She owns a cottage in the village so thinks occasionally of moving there permanently. Then she looks out her window at the lovely view and reconsiders.
We’re so glad you joined the AAUW Bennington Branch, Doreen! We apologize for the dearth of activities presently, but assure you there will be more coming when things are back to “normal.”
