In last month’s newsletter we introduced Berta Winiker, the first of three new members who joined our ranks in January. This month we introduce Darcy Webb.
An elementary school teacher who moved to Bennington this winter from the Hanover, NH, area, Darcy is an academic interventionist in reading and math, and enjoys small group instruction. Her undergraduate degree was from Smith College in art history and English, and her teaching degree from the University of North Florida.
Darcy taught in an inner city school in Jacksonville for 30 years. She moved to the Upper Valley several years ago to be closer to family and taught in the public school system in Hanover. She did remote teaching when Covid first started, but since moving to Bennington has been temporarily on hold, hoping for the eventual return to in-person learning.
Someone who has always liked the Bennington area, Darcy commented on the quality of the lighting here. One of her considerations for moving to Bennington is the convenience of having stores and services close by. She also appreciates this area’s close proximity to art museums such as MASS MoCA.
Darcy has taught yoga to adults and children in a studio setting as well as in an after-school program for at-risk youth. She makes it a practice to walk two and a half miles every day.
A gardener, Darcy always had flower boxes and the like around her house. This past summer she had the experience of working on a larger scale; she helped with a flower farm owned by friends in Cornish, NH. Darcy also likes to sew.
Darcy has not wasted any time in getting involved: she joined our book group and attended the Feb. 18 meeting. We’re thrilled to have her as a new member. Welcome, Darcy!
