Take Action

We can be very proud of our State and efforts by Vermont Secretary of State Condos to ensure access to mail in voting.  Also, Vermonters have had eligible in person voter registration any day up to and including the day of elections, no excuse absentee and early voting, allowable registrations drives and no restrictions causing felony disenfranchisement. Our Senators and Representative advocate for secure voting and the elimination of voter suppression, so what can we do besides let them know we support their efforts?

Did you know that in the 2018 mid-term elections no state exceeded 62% of eligible voters voting (AARP bulletin July/August 2020). Vermont voters represented 55.7% of those eligible.

  • Send a Vote Forward letter. This is one of the easiest things you can do to increase election turnout.  Vote Forward is recommended by AAUW branch member Julie Mackaman  who is also active in Vote Save America and WorkingAmerica
  • Use Hashtags on social media:  #protectthevote and #wedemandmore
  • Talk with your friends and family who live in other states. Let them know where to find information on misinformation and voter suppression efforts in their state. Urge them to telephone and text their senators and representatives.
  • Donate to in-state candidates and/or candidates in other states that support your issues
  • Follow suggestions from organizations such as AAUW and League of Women Voters’ 100 days 100 ways

Remember the Vermont oath signed when you registered to vote and help others do so:

“Vote within your conscience without fear or favor of any person.”
